Overview

        The College of Science (COS), National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University was formally established in 1979. Since its establishment, the College has been committed to carrying out leading-edge research in every field of science, offering challenging and rigorous academic programs, and cultivating the next generation of scientific leaders through holistic education. To date, the college has built strong academic leadership, and has been recognized as a notable and significant incubator for training potential and competitive scientists.

        In keeping with the goal of achieving excellence, the College continues to encourage interdisciplinary studies, enhance international collaborations, and to empower our students with academic, professional and technical expertise that meet the challenge of globalization.

(3) Establish excellent software and hardware facilities for academic training and research.
(4) Cultivate well-rounded researchers and leaders.
Educational Goals:

The College of Science pursues the overall educational goal of cultivating interdisciplinary professionals with an international perspective in order to create innovative research and industrial development. With equal emphasis on teaching and research, in addition to focusing on basic courses, more diverse and innovative courses are offered to stimulate students’ interest in academic and interdisciplinary research and further extend their horizons to include advanced technology applications. At the same time, the College also expects to achieve an education that cultivates students who are well-rounded in humanities and social concern. Through internationalization and research integration, students are equipped with international vision, communication and integrative leadership capability.

Facts & Figures

        The College of Science comprises 3 departments, 7 graduate institutes, and 2 interdisciplinary degree programs. The College currently has an excellent teacher resource comprising 106 full-time teachers, 3 Ministry of Education National Chair Professors with tenure, 4 academicians (3 Academia Sinica scholars and 1 overseas scholar) and 8 Chiao Tung University tenure Chair Professors. The College continues to actively recruit outstanding international researchers and scholars. The College student population comprises 642 undergraduates and 940 graduate students.
